The school system, which was founded in 1869, is known for its STEM and humanities programs, multibillion-dollar research centers, and closeness to vibrant cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego. As a result, it’s no surprise that several UC campuses have poor acceptance rates. Take a look at some of the best community colleges in the country.

I have to start by praising the California Community College system. I’ve worked in higher education in a number of places, and California excels at it. You won’t find a more economical choice than this at only $46 per unit for in-state students. Furthermore, they have almost no entry requirements. Even if you don’t have a high school diploma, you can enroll in classes.

Community college is a fantastic alternative for you if you are seeking for the simplest universities to get into in California due to a low GPA, you want to forgo the SAT or ACT, or the application process appears onerous. If you’re interested in learning more about the differences between community college and university, I have a terrific article that will help you make the decision.

Why Is It So Difficult to Get Into UC Schools?

Admission to the University of California colleges is extremely competitive, and for good reason. Because of their high rankings and academic quality, students flock to the UCs. UCLA and UC Berkeley were ranked #1 and second in the list of finest public colleges by US News & World Report in 2020. Furthermore, UC Riverside was ranked first for socioeconomic mobility, with more Pell Grant recipients enrolling there than at any other university in the country.

The University of California system also offers a diverse selection of majors, extracurricular activities, and resources. Without having to leave campus, students have access to museums, art galleries, concert halls, observatories, and even botanical gardens.

The UCs receive a significant number of applications each year, which is unsurprising. According to Forbes, more than 181,000 students applied to the UCs in 2018, but only 71,085 freshmen were accepted. While the schools have always been competitive, space constraints and a lack of state money mean that they now have to turn away roughly 60% of competent applications each year.

The fact that statistics differ greatly for in-state and out-of-state applicants complicates the UCs’ low admission rates. California students are particularly drawn to the UCs because they provide in-state citizens with the opportunity to receive an excellent education at a fraction of the cost of a private school education.

The UCs, on the other hand, are well aware that out-of-state applicants can bring in far more money. In fact, UCLA only accepted 12 percent of California candidates and 16 percent of out-of-state applicants in 2019. Keep in mind that, excluding international students, there were 2-3 times more in-state candidates than out-of-state applicants. While the admission percentage for out-of-state candidates is higher, those applicants are more qualified and held to a higher academic standard. Out-of-state students had SAT scores ranging from 1440 to 1550, while in-state students received scores ranging from 1300 to 1530. Out-of-state students scored 33-35 on the ACT, while in-state students scored 28-35.
