Croatia’s largest university, the University of Zagreb, with over 75,000 students enrolled and is one of the country’s 128 higher education institutions. It is South-Eastern Europe’s largest university. Croatia is also welcoming and bilingual. - Zagreb University
The University of Zagreb is the oldest continuing educational institution in Southeastern Europe, having been founded in 1669. The University of Zagreb, located in the Croatian capital, is the top university in the country for international students.
Natural Science, Engineering, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Social Science, Humanities, and the Arts are the seven faculties of the old Jesuit Academy of the Royal Free City of Zagreb.
Several English courses, including two Bachelor’s degrees, are available at the university (Business and Economics). Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dental Medicine, Business, Managerial Informatics, Economics, and Environment are among the English Master’s degrees available.
Neuroscience and Biomedicine Ph.D. programs are also taught in English.
- Split University
The University of Split is a public research university in the Croatian city of Split. It was established in 1974 and is now divided into 13 faculties. Engineering, Economics, Law, Science, Catholic Theology, Chemistry, Medicine, Kinesiology, Philosophy, Maritime Studies, and Fine Arts are among these schools. The university can offer a total of 181 degree programs through these departments.
While the majority of the courses are offered in Croatian, one exception is medicine. The Bologna-aligned program began in 2011 with the goal of attracting more international students to the university.
- Zadar University

The university has nine colleges, four departments, and one school, which offer a total of 162 study programs. Applied Arts, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Economics, Humanities, Maritime Studies, Law, Medicine, Tourism, and Teacher Education are among them.

- Pula’s Juraj Dobrila University
The Juraj Dobrila University in Pula is a relatively new educational institution in Croatia. It was established in 2006 as part of the reform of Croatia’s educational system.
The institution, which is located in Pula, Istria County, awards degrees in Engineering, Health and Natural Science, Economics, Informatics, Humanities, Education, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
The university provides a variety of English and Italian courses. Primary and Preschool Education are two programs that are taught in both languages.
- Dubrovnik University
The University of Dubrovnik is Croatia’s most recent higher education institution. Its rudimentary beginnings may be traced back to 1996, despite the fact that it was only formally created in 2003. After all, the previous Dubrovnik Polytechnic served as the university’s foundation.

9. Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
The Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia, previously known as the American College of Management and Technology, is the country’s sole university that provides both American and Croatian degrees. After all, it is a satellite campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology, which is situated in New York.
The school’s programs vary depending on whatever campus you visit. The Hospitality & Tourism program is only offered in Dubrovnik, and the International Business program is only offered at the Zagreb campus. However, both divisions provide a bachelor’s degree in Web and Mobile Computing/Information Technology. 10. Algebra University College
Algebra University College is a leading private university for international students in Croatia. It was founded in 1998 and has campuses in Dubrovnik, Split, Varazdin, Pula, Rijeka, and Osijek, as well as a major campus in Zagreb.
System Engineering, Software Engineering, Multimedia Computing, Digital Design, and Digital Marketing are among the five undergraduate degrees offered by the university college. These courses are taught in collaboration with Zagreb University.

Admission Process
The admissions procedure and prerequisites for international students vary depending on their status and the sort of academic program they are enrolling in. As a result, students are recommended to double-check these. In Croatia, the most common categories of international student status are:

Degree Programs
Depending on the degree of study, there are some universal and some institution-specific requirements for admission to a higher education institution.
Admissions to undergraduate study programs in Croatia are handled using a centralized online application system, which requires prospective students to fill out an application form and choose up to 10 study programs from any Croatian higher education institution. Higher education institutions in Croatia oversee admissions to graduate and postgraduate study programs, so prospective students must apply directly to higher education institutions for information on the application procedure, dates, and required documents.
It should also be mentioned that most study programs in Croatia are restricted, meaning that the maximum number of places available for a particular study program is determined annually by higher education institutions.
Before Applying
Almost all higher education institutions that accept international students have an International Cooperation Office or a designated contact person who may provide information to potential international students. Prospective students should contact that office well ahead of time to receive pertinent information on application procedures and other essential issues.
Admission procedures to higher education institutions in Croatia have been centralized and controlled by the Central Application Office, which is part of the Agency for Science and Higher Education, since the academic year 2010/2011. Secondary school grades and achievement at the newly implemented State Matura (or a recognized equivalent from nations that have external evaluation of secondary education), implemented at the state level, provide the basis for the admissions ranking. The weight allocated to the outcomes of the State Matura is decided by higher education institutions independently.
Admission and application deadlines
Enrollment in a degree program is based on a public call issued by the higher education institution that administers the program at least six months ahead to the program’s start date. The competition includes information on enrolment criteria, the number of available spots, the application process, the required documents, and the competition and enrolment deadlines.
At most higher education institutions, the months of July and September are the two main admission seasons for academic programs starting in the fall. The September admission period, on the other hand, is only declared if the enrolment quota for a specific study program was not reached in July. Candidates who need to take the Croatian State Matura exams must register and provide all required application materials by February in order to take the exams in May and compete during the July admission session. Tuition Fees
Each higher education institution in Croatia sets its own tuition prices for study programs. Tuition fees are determined by the type of study program and its duration. As a result, prospective students should directly contact the higher education institution of their choice for specific tuition fee information.
International undergraduate tuition fees vary depending on the higher education institution and topic of study. Tuition fees for undergraduate degree programs in the humanities and social sciences range from 6,000 Kuna (approximately 800 EUR) to 16,500 Kuna (approximately 2,200 EUR) per year, while tuition fees for technical sciences are around 22,000 Kuna (approximately 3,000 EUR) per year and tuition fees for sciences and medical study are around 27,000 Kuna per year (approximately 3,600 EUR).
Because tuition fees for graduate and postgraduate programs vary greatly, they should be requested directly from higher education institutions.
