University of Twente Scholarships

University of twente scholarshipThe University of Twente (UT; Dutch pronunciation: [ynivrsitit tnt], abbr. UT) is a public technical university in Enschede, Netherlands. Under the umbrella of 4TU, the UT collaborates with Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Wageningen University and Research Centre, as well as being a participant in the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU).

Multiple major ranking tables have ranked the university among the top 400 universities in the world. According to the Times Higher Education magazine, the University of Twente was ranked 65th in Europe in 2017 and 184th in the world in 2019. Today’s artcle will focus on University of Twente scholarship, but before that let’s look at the tuition fees charged by the university of Twente.

Tuition fees

Now that we have seen the tuition fees charged by the university of Twente, lets now look at the University of Twente scholarships and how one can apply for it.

University of Twente Scholarships (UTS)

The University Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a scholarship for outstanding students from both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA countries who are applying to the University of Twente for a graduate program (MSc). For one year, the students earn between € 3,000 and € 22,000 in stipends.

What scholarship covers

For a year, the price ranges from € 3,000 to € 22,000 (approximately 50 scholarships available).
Take a look at the breakdown of annual living expenses for students at the University of Twente (excluding tuition fees).
Please keep in mind that this scholarship is intended to cover study-related expenses. The scholarship recipient must determine how to invest the funds. There will be no charges (such as tuition fees) charged on your behalf.

Two Year Study program

In the case of a two-year study program, students can obtain an extra UTS in the balance of the first year’s UTS to offset the second year’s expenses. However, the scholarship will only be renewed in the second year if students meet the UTS application criteria.

You must have received the following:

  1. At the end of the third quartile of the first year, an average rating of 7 (out of 10) was received.
  2. At least 50% of European Credits at the end of the first year’s third quartile

Application requirements

To be eligible for a University of Twente Scholarship, you must meet all of the criteria mentioned below.

  1. The application for a University of Twente scholarship is different from the application for a course at the university. Regardless of your financial situation, you must first obtain an acceptance letter.
  2. Starting in the academic year 2021/2022, you have been (provisionally) admitted to one of the eligible UT Master’s programs (September). Please keep in mind that receiving your results after submitting your application could take up to 8 weeks.
  3. A student number is needed.
  4. You have not completed a UT (under)graduate program; you meet the requirements for obtaining a visa to enter the Netherlands (if applicable); and you pass the general English language examination. Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 90) with an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the speaking skills subscore
  5. You are not eligible for a study loan in the Netherlands; the University Twente Scholarship is a scholarship for outstanding students. This usually denotes that you are in the top 5% to 10% in your class.

How to apply 

You must first qualify for a Master’s program. You will apply for the scholarship using your student number after you’ve applied for a Master’s program and obtained a (conditional) acceptance letter. For Dutch and/or current UT students, UTS is not an option. At the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, the UTS is not available for Master’s programs (ITC). The pre-program Master’s is not offered at UTS.
