South Lake Tahoe Community College: Acceptance Rate, Admission, Tuition

Lake Tahoe is a well known public college in the Reno Area, located in South Lake Tahoe, California. It is a modest university with only 670 undergraduate students enrolled. The acceptance rate at Lake Tahoe is 100 percent. Natural sciences, social science research methods, and business are also popular degrees.

Accreditation 

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC), a regional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education and the United States Department of Education, has granted Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) accreditation. In January 2018, LTCC’s accreditation was reaffirmed for the second time. 

In January 1979, LTCC was granted accreditation for the first time. Since then, the ACCJC has successfully maintained accreditation status through a regular process of self-evaluation and review. Full credit is given to equivalent and transferable courses satisfactorily completed at Lake Tahoe Community College by the University of California, the California State Institutions, and other approved schools and universities. 

Ranking 

Lake Tahoe Community College is ranked 133rd out of 853 Community Colleges in the United States and 16th out of 101 Community Colleges in California for the quality of service it provides. 

Admission 

The process of applying for and receiving admission to Lake Tahoe Community College is rather basic and consists of only a few steps. 

Filling out the application

 As part of the Lake Tahoe Community College admissions process, an applicant must first apply to the college. Interested candidates can apply to the university by calling (530) 541-4660 or submitting an application online. Those interested in applying for admission can also go to the university’s administration at One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Students interested in enrolling at Lake Tahoe Community College can also call the college’s admissions office directly.

After submitting their application and paying the enrollment fee, the candidate must provide specific documents in order to receive an admission decision. Candidates must provide the following documentation to Lake Tahoe Community College: 

Transcripts 

Candidates must provide required high school and college transcripts through Parchment as part of the screening process (or similar platforms). 

Essay 

It’s also known as the personal statement, and it gives applicants a one-of-a-kind opportunity to highlight their accomplishments and personalities. Personal experience and anecdotes are expected of candidates. 

Official test scores

By providing their authentic SAT or ACT scores, candidates can strengthen their case for a spot at Lake Tahoe Community College. It is not a necessity, and not all students are required to submit their results. 

However, once the applications have been examined, extra documents or information may be requested. 

Confirm Your Participation 

To complete the third step, candidates must certify their attendance at Lake Tahoe Community College. They will also have to choose their housing and go through the Financial Check-In process. 

This stage entails checking and validating the Accounts and Financial Aid summary (scholarships, fees, and tuition prices), as well as selecting a lodging choice, a payment plan, and making the first payment. 

Aside from that, candidates must pass the Math and English tests before registering for classes. 

Registration for classes is required. 

Candidates will be needed to register for courses once all of the following stages have been completed.

Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirements 

A high GPA helps a candidate stand out from the crowd and is used by schools and universities to assess candidates’ academic performance. Most institutions consider a high GPA to be an essential criteria in admission. 

Higher GPAs, on the other hand, are not a prerequisite at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Exemptions and Waivers for Fees and Tuition 

The Lake Tahoe College Promise at LTCC offers free tuition for up to three years, priority access to the Textbook Lending Library, $100 per quarter in the LTCC Bookstore, priority registration, an unlimited free bus pass, individualized support with a dedicated counselor, access to Promise Navigators, and more. First-time college students who commit to attending LTCC full-time are eligible for the program (15 units per quarter highly recommended, 12 units minimum). It is available to citizens and Dreamers in California, as well as residents and Dreamers in Nevada who live in the Tahoe Basin. 

Non-resident students who attended a California high school for at least three years and graduated or obtained the equivalent may fill out a questionnaire to see whether they are eligible for this exemption. Students who do not have legal immigration status must also sign an affidavit on the form stating that they have applied for legal status or intend to apply as soon as they are eligible. This rule does not apply to international students and other non-immigrant immigrants as described in 8 CFR 1101(a)(15), nor to students enrolled only in distance education courses who live outside of California. 

Students in grades K-12 who participate in specific dual enrollment courses given by arrangement with South Tahoe High School are eligible for this exemption beginning in Fall 2015, unless they are categorized as non-immigrant aliens as defined by 8 CFR 1101(a) (15). Students who are exempt from apportionment under this provision are not eligible for it. 

California Nevada Interstate Attendance Agreement Exemption (SB 605): Beginning in the fall of 2016, Nevada citizens who live in particular zip codes may be eligible for a tuition rate three times that of California residents. 

The Good Neighbor Policy Exemption (ECS 76140) is available to Nevada residents who previously qualified for a reduced rate under a state reciprocity agreement that expired in 2011, and who have remained continuously enrolled in the primary terms. These students will not be charged non-resident tuition and will instead be charged a Good Neighbor Tuition Amount that is three times the rate charged to California residents. 

Eligible Military Personnel, Veterans, and Dependents are eligible for waivers. 

Non-resident U.S. military members on active duty in California are exempt from paying non-resident tuition until their military service is over. Their dependents are granted a one-year remission from the date of entry into California. Evidence of the date the student abandoned their out-of-state residence to become a California resident must be produced when the waiver expires. Until one year has passed since the out-of-state residence was surrendered, the student will be categorized as a non-resident and will be charged non-resident tuition. 

Orientation 

At LTCC, incoming students must attend orientations. Although no in-person orientations are being held at this time, you can still participate in the interactive online orientation. 

Orientations give new students in-depth information about LTCC’s resources, how to prepare for transfer, student life, financial aid, and much more. After your new student orientation, make sure you get a copy of your high school transcripts and schedule an appointment with a counselor by emailing counselor@ltcc.edu.

They send more students to four-year colleges than universities twice our size. Their pupils graduate ready to face the difficulties and possibilities that lie ahead. UC-Santa Barbara, UC-Davis, UC-San Diego, UC-Santa Cruz, UC-Riverside, and Sonoma State University have transfer admission agreements with LTCC. 

Scholarships 

The Martnez Family and the LTCC H.O.P.E. Club supports the José Martinez Memorial Scholarship. Students in the group decided to raise money to build and award scholarships in Jose’s name as a way to pay tribute to their late colleague. José Martnez attended Lake Tahoe Community College and graduated from South Tahoe High School. He was a role model student who had a positive impact on those around him. As a DREAMer student, he persevered and elegantly overcame educational and personal obstacles to earn his associate’s degree from LTCC. A LTCC continuing student and a transferring student will each receive a scholarship this year. The scholarship recipients displayed need, adversity, and diversity support.
