The Melbourne School of Land & Environment was disestablished on May 3, 2012 with Forestry and Agriculture merged into the Faculty of Science as Departments within it from July 1, 2012.[9] In June 2016 Faculty of Veterinary Science has been discontinued,[10] but still continuing its education program until 2019.[11].

• Trinity College is Australia’s oldest residential college, established in 1872 by Bishop James Moorhouse, then Bishop of Melbourne.
• Ormond College is one of Australia’s largest residential colleges. It was founded in 1881 by Francis Ormond as an annexe to Trinity College for the education of men.
• Queen’s College was established in 1886 as a women’s college by the Presbyterian Church of Victoria (now Uniting Church).
• Newman College was founded in 1918 by Cardinal Daniel Mannix, Archbishop of Melbourne. It was named after John Henry Newman who provided inspiration for its establishment with his ideas about university education and formation.
• St Hilda’s College is Australia’s first women’s college affiliated with an Anglican University; it opened its doors in 1913 at Selwyn Hall next to Trinity on Swanston Street. In 1988 it moved to Parkville where it merged with Janet Clarke Hall and became co-residential until 1993 when Janet Clarke Hall became a graduate women’s college once again. St Hilda’s is now home to all undergraduate women from around Australia and overseas studying at the University of Melbourne who wish to experience residential life as part of their university studies.
• St Michael’s Collegiate School was founded by Mary Eliza Fullerton (1858-1946) in North Adelaide between 1888-1898
