Churchill High School

Churchill High School is a public high school located in San Antonio, Texas. It is part of the North East Independent School District. The school is named for Winston Churchill. The school serves parts of the Alamo Heights area and Leon Valley. It opened in 1956 at the site of Garner Elementary School which was demolished in 1955 to make way for construction of Churchill High School.

In 2017, Churchill was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, one of only eight from Texas among 329 schools nationwide to receive this honor that year.[2]

Johnson High School

Johnson High School is a public high school in San Antonio, Texas, United States. It is part of the North East Independent School District. It is a magnet school for medical science and engineering.

The campus was originally named Northeast High School and located on Broadway Street; the building was completed in 1956 and graduated its first class in 1957. The name changed to Johnson High School during the 1991-1992 school year when new campuses opened in NEISD.[2]

The student body is split into five “houses” (or pods) which serve as communities within the larger school. Each house has three hallways that share a restroom/drink fountain area (referred to as “the bowl”). Each house also has an outdoor courtyard that serves as a lunch area for students in that house, though students are allowed to eat anywhere at the campus during the lunch periods. The houses are named after famous people of North East San Antonio: Converse House: Named after Charles M. Converse, philanthropist and founder of Converse College; Hirsch House: Named after Bernard Hirsch, founder of Hirsch Feed & Grain Company; Nixon House: Named after William Richard Nixon who founded W.R. Nixon Realty (now known as Keller Williams Realty); Shook House: Named after George Shook, owner of Glamour Cleaners; and Zoeller House: Named after John Zoeller who was elected to numerous offices including Mayor of San Antonio 1852-1853.

Requirements for Admission to San Antonio High Schools

In order to apply for admission to a public high school in San Antonio, students must have completed the following:

  • Completed eighth grade credits (including minimum state-mandated subjects) or earned a qualifying score on the 8th Grade STAAR test or equivalent assessment; and/or have completed an approved homeschool curriculum with their parent(s) or guardian(s).

Note: Applicants who are home schooled must submit proof of completion of each subject required by state law. This may include documentation from an accredited correspondence school or GED certificate. Students may be required to take additional courses if they did not complete secondary courses as part of their homeschool curriculum but want to graduate with a standard diploma (as opposed to a non-standard diploma).
