Australia Awards Scholarships

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade administers Australia Grants Scholarships, which are long-term awards. They want to help Australia’s partner countries meet their development needs in accordance with bilateral and regional agreements. They allow people from developing countries, especially those in the Indo-Pacific region, to study full-time at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. Individuals’ skills and expertise are developed as a result of the study and research opportunities offered by Australia Awards Scholarships, allowing them to drive change and contribute to growth in their own countries.

Award benefits

Scholarships from Australia Awards are awarded for the minimum amount of time required to complete the academic program prescribed by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory preparation. In general, the following advantages apply:

1. Tuition fees in full
2. Return air travel–payment of a single round-trip economy class ticket to and from Australia, taking the shortest path possible.
3. Establishment allowance–a one-time payment to help with living costs, textbooks, and research materials.
CLE – Contribution to Living Expenses –
4. A fortnightly contribution to basic living costs, charged at the department’s discretion.
IAP – Introductory Academic Program
5. A mandatory curriculum covering material on living and studying in Australia that must be completed prior to the start of formal academic studies.
6. For the duration of the award (for award holders only), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is provided to cover the scholar’s basic medical costs (with the exception of pre-existing conditions)
7. Pre-course English (PCE) fees may be available for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training if deemed necessary.
Additional academic support may be available to help a scholar achieve academic success or improve their academic experience.
8. For eligible research students, fieldwork (for research awards and Masters by coursework with a research component where fieldwork is required) may be available for one return economy class airfare to their country of citizenship or within Australia.

Award conditions

Applicants who wish to receive an Australia Awards Scholarship must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia stating that they will adhere to the scholarship’s terms and conditions. After completing their scholarship, scholars must leave Australia for at least two years. Failure to do so would result in the scholar incurring a penalty for the sum of their scholarship that has been accrued.

Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships

Pacific Scholarships from Australia provide opportunities for people from Pacific developing countries to study at selected educational institutions in the Pacific region. The Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships aim to provide people with the knowledge and skills they need to make a positive difference and impact their home country’s growth.

Benefiting Countries

Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna are among the countries taking part.

Eligibility

Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships are currently available for study in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa, and Wallis and Futuna’s tertiary institutions.

Australian Government Research Training 

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) program was replaced by the Research Training Program (RTP) on January 1, 2017.
