How to Obtain a Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) License
CNAs in Florida can get their nursing licenses from the Florida Board of Nursing. Students who want to get their CNA license in Florida must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or an equivalent, and have finished a state-approved CNA program. Before the board will accept them to take the exam, students must arrange an electronic fingerprinting consultation and submit in their completed forms, as well as the $140 exam fee paid to the testing service provider. Individuals must pass both the written and skills components of the nursing assistant competency examination. Students are given three chances to pass the exam, following which they must finish another board-approved training program.

How to Become a Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
In order to obtain a license as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in Florida, students must complete an accredited state-approved curriculum and pass the NCLEX-PN exam. Before taking the exam, students must fill out an application and register with Pearson VUE.
Before the exam, electronic fingerprinting is required, and once completed, the student will receive an eligibility letter stating whether or not all requirements have been met. Students have three chances to pass the NCLEX exam, and those who do not pass after the third attempt must complete another nursing education program approved by the board to be eligible for a second chance to get their Florida LPN license.
Every two years, on July 31, there is a mandatory renewal date. LPN license holders must complete their continuing education requirements, submit their complete renewal forms, and pay a fee. Individuals with active licenses who pay before their license expires will be charged $75. If the individual’s license is still active and/or if the individual has paid after the renewal deadline, fees will increase. Fees skyrocket 120 days after the deadline has passed.
How to Obtain a Florida Registered Nurse (RN) License
The Florida Board of Nursing is the place to go if you want to get your RN license in Florida. Students must complete a recognized nursing program, pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and submit an application to the board in order to earn a Florida nursing license. Individuals who already hold a registered nurse license in another state may seek endorsement.
In order to take the NCLEX-RN exam, students must receive approval after filing for their initial licensure. Those who fail the exam can apply for another one, but if they fail three times, they must complete another educational program before trying again. Students are also required to participate in an electronic fingerprinting procedure, which they must arrange on their own. All applicants for RN licenses in Florida must pay a $110 application and licensing fee, as well as $200 to Pearson VUE, the testing vendor.
RN licenses in Florida expire every two years. Nurses who want to renew their licenses must complete the required continuing education, submit a completed renewal application, and pay $75. Fees increase for individuals renewing after their licenses have expired and/or for those renewing licenses that are no longer active.
How to Obtain a Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License
The Florida Nursing License Board issues advanced practice registered nurse licenses in Florida. Only individuals who already have an RN license and have finished a master’s degree or higher in their chosen nursing specialization are eligible for an APRN license. Applicants must also have their specialization certified by a national certification board. APRN specialties in Florida include nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified nurse midwife (CNM), and nurse anesthetist (CRNA).
Applicants must submit their application as well as their $110 application fee (although the fee can sometimes vary based on the license verification and Livescan service provider). Applicants must schedule electronic fingerprinting and provide proof of malpractice insurance, as well as have their national certifying organization transmit proof of certification to the Florida Board of Nursing.
