Clemson University was founded in 1889 by Walter M. Merritt and opened its doors to students on February 4th 1890 with an enrollment of forty-five students at Greenville High School.[11] The university was established under the Morrill Land-Grant Acts which provided federal grants to agricultural colleges to teach scientific agriculture along with military tactics[12]. In 1892 it became known as Clemson Agricultural College[13], then two years later it became part of South Carolina State College when state schools were consolidated into larger institutions.[14] In 1893 it changed its name again to Clemson Agricultural College and Polytechnic Institute but this time without “polytechnic” due to a misunderstanding between Dr. Woffard who was writing down instructions given over a telephone line from Governor Tillman who thought he had said “polytechnic” instead of “science”.[15] As an agricultural college whose purpose was teaching farmers how best grow crops and raise livestock[16], there weren’t enough facilities on campus for instruction until 1898 when construction began on new buildings including barns for farm animals as well as dormitories for students who lived too far away from home during their studies.[17]

University of West Florida

University of West Florida is a public university located in Pensacola, FL. Founded in 1963, it has an undergraduate population of 4,000 students. Accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), APUS offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business management, criminal justice and education. The school also offers a doctoral degree in education leadership. All courses are taught by professors and no classes or homework are required of students.
