  • Talk with your advisor about whether or not your current academic record will qualify for admission into the Trident Tech program.
  • Find out what courses are required by your selected major, how many credits each class will be worth and if there is any pre-requisite coursework that needs to be completed before enrolling in these classes at Trident Tech College (i.e., English 101).
  • Find out what GPA will be required for admission into your selected major (the average GPA varies from 2.0 up). If necessary take placement tests if they are available through other institutions or online sources such as CLEP examinations through Collegeboard (wwwdotclepexamcom), DANTES exams (wwwdotdantesorg), etc.).

Meet with a counselor and get your pre-admission PLAN from your high school counselor.

When you apply, you’ll meet with a counselor in your high school to discuss the application process. The counselor will help you create a PLAN for your academic future, including how long it will take to complete each class and what classes should be taken next year. Your PLAN should also include some general goals—for example, if you want to go into medicine or law enforcement after graduation, this will help guide their suggestions on which classes might prepare you best for those fields of study.

Take placement testing at Trident Technical College if needed. All students applying to a degree program or course requiring college-level reading, writing or math must take the Trident Literacy Exam (TLE) and/or the COMPASS test. Students may be required to take courses in developmental reading, writing or math as a result of their TLE/COMPASS score.

Placement testing is a way to determine if you have the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in your classes. If you do not, the school will offer courses that will give you the basic skills you need to succeed.

You can take placement testing at one of several locations across the state. The course options vary by campus location, so be sure to check with your local Trident Technical College for information about their specific policies on placement testing.

Placement testing gives students an opportunity for a fresh start, which is especially important for those who need help building reading, writing or math skills before beginning college-level work. Many colleges require this evaluation as part of the admissions process because it helps identify students who need extra support in order to succeed academically at that particular institution and in its degree programs or courses requiring college-level reading writing or math proficiency standards; however there are also benefits for those who do well on their placement tests too!

You can do it!

If you have a dream, it’s worth taking the time to explore your options and see if there’s a program that suits your needs. You can do it!
